Before You Start
Before using WhatsApp with Join-In Pro, make sure:
- WhatsApp is installed on your smartphone or tablet.
- Your phone has an active internet connection.
- Join-In Pro is installed on your Windows computer.
- Your preferred access method (touch, eye gaze, switch scanning, or pointer) has been selected in Join-In Pro Settings.
- If you plan to use AAC, your Grid 3 or TD Snap integration has already been set up, and the correct AAC integration mode has been selected in Join-In Pro Settings.
First Time Setup
The first time you open WhatsApp in Join-In Pro, you’ll need to link it to your phone using WhatsApp Linked Devices.
This is a one-time technical setup. Because it uses WhatsApp’s standard Linked Devices interface rather than the accessible Join-In Pro environment, most users will need assistance from a family member, support person, or clinician to complete these steps.
- Open WhatsApp in Join-In Pro.
- Wait for the QR code to appear.
- On your phone, open WhatsApp.
- Open Linked Devices:
- Android: Tap ⋮ (More options) > Linked Devices.
- iPhone: Tap Settings > Linked Devices.
- Tap Link a Device.
- If prompted, unlock your phone using your PIN, fingerprint, or Face ID.
- Scan the QR code displayed on your computer screen.
- Wait while WhatsApp securely links your device and synchronizes your conversations. If you have many chats, this may take a few moments.
After Setup
Once WhatsApp has been linked, you can normally use it entirely within Join-In Pro. You won’t need to scan the QR code again unless you:
- Sign out of WhatsApp in Join-In Pro.
- Remove the linked device from WhatsApp on your phone.
- Reinstall WhatsApp.
- Reset your linked devices.
If the QR Code Won’t Scan
- Make sure your phone has permission to use the camera.
- Check that your phone is connected to the internet.
- Refresh WhatsApp in Join-In Pro to generate a new QR code and try again.
